About Me
DAVID MAENHOUT
REGISTERED PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST
CANADIAN CERTIFIED COUNSELLOR
I believe therapy is built upon a respectful, honest, and nonjudgmental relationship that promotes safety, connection, and communication. When working with clients, I strive to be collaborative, adaptable, and open. My approach is one that focuses on enhancing self-esteem and self-empowerment to assist you in staying present, honest, and authentic throughout the therapeutic process – especially during the most painful and difficult parts of therapy.
I believe in using a well-rounded approach to therapy, where I bring together different therapy models to create a tailored framework that fits each person’s unique needs. This means combining techniques from various approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and others. By blending these different methods, I aim to provide effective support that is personalized and suited to each individual.
During our sessions, we will work together to better understand your emotions, interpretations, beliefs, and felt sense by delving into the meanings of your current and past experiences. Increasing your awareness and understanding of your experiences can promote new insights and perspectives, allowing you to heal from painful experiences and help you feel less stuck.
